Affirmation of Faith
No matter what the world has said in the past,
I believe in God the Father
Who took a murderer named Moses,
A rascal named Jacob, an adulterer named David,
And a prostitute named Rahab, turned their lives around
And called them children of the heavenly Father.
I believe that this is God’s eternal guarantee!
No matter what the world says today,
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s Son,
Who not only forgave a woman, just a stone’s throw away from death,
A money-grubbing tax collector named Zaccheus,
And Simon Peter, who denied that he would deny him,
But also all of us, prodigal sisters and brothers,
By his death, signed, sealed and nailed to the cross.
I believe that his resurrection is the passionate sign of God’s new way;
Christ’s high way of living and loving and forgiving.
I believe that this is God’s eternal guarantee!
And no matter what the world fears about the future,
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Who draws us together as a body of believers,
The community of sinners and saints,
And fills us now with a Sunday sense of forgiveness;
Not with momentary acts of forgiveness,
But with the full spirit of forgiveness.
I believe that this is God’s eternal guarantee!
