Praying for the Persecuted…

My friend Jonathan (living in South Korea) sent this note to me:

dear friends in Christ,

The Persians fleeing Iran that I’ve met here in South Korea tell me unthinkable things about the frequent tortures and killings by the Iranian government. Despite being unable to find an asylum “sponsor” to ground him in Korea, “R” (in his 50s) was recently baptized publicly by the Persian church here. Within days, this new believer was detained by the immigration authorities as he was unable to find a “sponsor” in Korea. Two weeks later, he was sent back into the hands of the Iranian government, fearing that Persian spies witnessed his public baptism. Four days later, his family living in Iran still hasn’t seen or heard from him.

It is my deep concern that this new brother doesn’t give up (despite two weeks of jail following his baptism, and losing all ground gained in his escape), but rather that He delights in the unspeakable sovereignty of God, filled with faith that God appointed him for such a time and way as this.

praying. Jonathon
